Kindness to Yourself

Kindness

Building steady, self-actualizing attitudes has three phases:

  1. Breaking the old, self-limiting patterns.

  2. Replacing them with new, more constructive ways of thinking and acting.

  3. Trusting yourself and your intuitive self.

Hello readers, I hope 2024 is off to a fabulous start!

Being actively kind to yourself is part of the second phase. It’s part of learning to be your own friend. Most of us were not raised to care for ourselves gently and lovingly. We’ve been discouraged from pampering ourselves and taught that such things are either selfish or a waste of time. But actively nourishing yourself and being gentle with your body are statements that you care about yourself and want to replace some harshness with kindness.

You can be kind to yourself in many ways: physical, emotional, and spiritual.

The first step is to treat yourself with more understanding and acceptance. More self-compassion. You are a human being and have frailties. It is not trite to say none of us is perfect and we have more learning to do, so it is unrealistic to demand perfection of yourself. You want to be as gentle and loving about your flaws as you are about the weaknesses of someone you love. Not easy to do, but possible.

Expansion Process

When you begin an expansion process, it’s like cleaning a house. You throw away useless or enjoyable items and replace them with new ones that now have more meaning to you. You want to refocus energy toward building the habit of expansive thinking. In this case, you’re throwing away old thoughts and patterns of thinking. You’re also renovating and redecorating with thought patterns that are loving, optimistic, and open to success in all areas.

Wishing you the strength to be kind to yourself,

Joy
