Embracing Inner Quiet for Personal Growth

Regular mental quieting teaches us how to use the mind to bridge our inner knowing—our intuition and true desires—and our capacity to act in the world. We can use the powers of the calm, focused mind, emotions, and imagination to shift from negative to positive attitudes and from others’ ideas of what we should be and do to our own ideas of what we want to be and do. Daily mental care and exercise represent an evolution in how we think about life and ourselves, this is the core of the Mind Fitness practice. It is part of a natural progression toward higher levels of thinking and interaction that enhance our lives.
Proactive Reflection for Mental Fitness
The inner-quieting practice makes us aware of our thoughts and guides us to where we want to go. We focus on and identify personally destructive attitudes and thinking, accept them, and replace them with powerful mental images of:
How we want to feel and act.
What we want our lives to be, inside and out.
What we want to contribute and accomplish.
How to reach those goals.
Taking time out for proactive personal reflection on our behalf combines
healing with empowerment and lets us actively take charge of our lives.
We consciously reflect on the kinds of perceptions and attitudes that we want to dominate our lives and then translate those values into meaningful goals and actions. We actively use the mind to bridge our inner knowing, our soul’s journey, and our daily lives in the outer world. We take time to think about who and what we are, balance our emotions and set our energies in the direction we want to develop. We don’t solve all our problems immediately, but over time, we approach them with growing consciousness and confidence.
The practice of inner quiet stimulates us to take charge of our lives in two ways: We clarify our desire to be a value-centered person, interested in optimal health and well-being, and we take responsibility for whether or not we become that person. We have a structure in which to heal—to connect with our inner strength and wisdom, to confront our fears gently, and to affirm our full potential. Using Mind Fitness principles, we identify our goals, visualize and affirm how to reach them, and confidently set out on that path.
