Fostering Mental Resilience and Purposeful Living through Mind Fitness

“I am not what happened to me, I am what I choose to become.”
~Carl Jung
Mind Fitness, as a cognitive behavioral approach, is about becoming self-aware, and then directing, balancing, and learning to optimize your thinking process. This approach is aimed at individuals who want to improve their lives and are at a relatively functional level mentally and emotionally. Sitting quietly and centering is ideal. Attentive relaxation can be done anywhere and individual activities such as biking, walking, painting, and drawing work equally well. We can breathe with focused awareness all while we are sitting, lying, standing or doing. It’s how and where our mind is focused that creates the effect.
When we move our lives toward intentionality, we increasingly set our direction. We begin optimizing our lives instead of just passing through them. As Carl Jung said, “I am not what happened to me, I am what I choose to become.” It is an active choosing process. We do not want to deny hard times, feelings, hardships, and sufferings but recognize and work with them. And then what? We look more honestly at what our motivations are. Are they our own, or are we following expectations set by others? Perhaps there is a blending of the two. We become more observant of our choices and actions as we quiet ourselves. We’re aware of moments of delight or sadness. We become more curious about why we are doing certain things. You are able to cultivate intentionality through Mind Fitness.
“At every moment, we always have a choice, even if it feels as if we don’t.
Sometimes that choice may simply be to think a more positive thought.”
~Tina Turner
Take a moment to breathe and look for those choices in your life,
Joy
